Why we built Readwing
We're parents of two kids who love their tablets. Even with screen time limited to two 30-minute sessions on school days, the pull of the tablet stayed strong, so we put it to work: our kids earn extra minutes by reading, and by showing they paid attention.
Every wrong answer brings a new question, so tapping until something turns green doesn't work.
Kids pick topics they love, and AI writes a new passage about it, pitched at their grade.
Emails tell you when a reading starts, what they picked, and when they've finished.
For kids
- Tap your name
On a device your parent set up, find your picture and type your 4-digit secret code.
- Choose a topic
Pick one of the ideas we suggest, or type your own.
- Read and answer
Read a short passage made for your grade, then answer the questions one at a time. You can have it read aloud.
- Earn your reward
Plan with your parents what your readings earn, like extra time on your tablet.
For parents
- Add your children
A nickname, birthday month and year, and a four-digit secret code for them to sign in with.
- Set up their device
Once per tablet or computer. After that, they just tap their name and type their 4-digit secret code.
- Set the rules
Difficulty, how many questions, how many wrong answers are allowed, and whether it's open book, closed book, or their choice.
- See how it's going
Emails when a reading starts and finishes, a weekly summary, and a dashboard with every reading. Pause access any time.
What Readwing will and won't do
- No advertising, tracking or analytics anywhere a child can see.
- No last names, photos, or email addresses for children.
- Every topic a child types is checked before anything is written, and you see it.
- Readwing doesn't lock the tablet or set the reward. It tells you what was read; you decide what it earns.
